Self Love

02.15.14

This being the week of Valentine’s Day, my favorite yoga instructors have been talking a lot in class about loving yourself and taking care of yourself, and that message really resonated with me. It’s easy to put the needs of others before your own needs, but if you don’t take care of yourself, how will you have the strength to take care of anyone else?

I’m making a commitment to do something for myself every day, even if it’s something as small as getting in some alone time or even just foam rolling any sore muscles. I know that I’ll be happier when my needs are met, which in turn will give me more energy to do everything I need to do in my daily life.

Do you make an effort to take time to take care of yourself?
What will you do today or this week to practice self love?

And please check out Lauren Fleshman’s article “Let’s Keep it Real About our Bodies,” which is a fantastic article also about loving yourself and your body.

Great post, love the quotes! I think taking time for ourselves each day is so healthy because we then can give to others around us- like our spouses, etc. I am going to relax today, read a book, and drink lots of coffee! 🙂

Thanks! That sounds like a perfect way to take care of yourself. 🙂 I love lazy days with a cup of coffee.

It’s so funny to me that you chose this topic. I was thinking last night that self-love would be an awesome blog topic on Valentine’s day. So, when I saw my Email today for your blog post I laughed a little! My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s day. His birthday is really close to the holiday. But, instead we just always make sure to do things throughout the year that are special and to show each other that we are thinking of one another. I get a lot of”Valentine’s days” :). However, I did buy myself some flowers for the dining table yesterday. That was my treat to make myself happy!

Great minds think alike. 🙂 Doing nice things throughout the year sounds like a much better idea than going all out on one day of the year when everything is like a billion times more expensive than it should be. I hope you’re enjoying your flowers!

I think of the time I take to run as time for myself. Blogging is something that I do for me, too!

That’s a very good point; taking care of your health by staying active is an excellent way to love yourself. 🙂

Love all these quotes! I think self love is so important and something that people don’t make enough time for. I have been trying to meditate every day and just take some time out to just relax!

Meditation is so great! I’m so bad at it–I have a hard time turning my brain off. I think it’s really awesome that you’re really dedicating yourself to developing your meditation skills. 🙂
