Thank You Body.

11.01.14

I wrote a little while ago about how running changed the way I look at my body—how focusing on what my body does and can do has given me more confidence… Many people, including myself, like to take the month of November to reflect upon everything I have to be grateful for. I wanted to start off this month of gratitude for thanking my body for everything it does.  Gratitude for my body: loving instead of criticizing.

Thank you body, for your strength. Thank you for carrying me through marathons and for allowing me to try some crazy yoga arm balances. Thank you for allowing me to do the activities that I love and enjoy, through which I can experience amazing things such as the beauty of nature on a run or hike.

Thank you for your flexibility. Thank you for being flexible not only as I practice yoga, but also as I go throughout my daily life. Thank you for being flexible enough to keep up with changes in my routine, like when I have to wake up very early.

Thank you body for being well and healthy. Thank you for being strong enough to allow me to take care of the people I love when they need me. Thank you for allowing me the things I need to do to make a living and to take care of my home.

To show my gratitude, I promise to take care of you. I promise to listen when you try to tell me to slow down or rest so that you can stay healthy. I promise to give you good fuel and to use that fuel to continue to allow you to do amazing things. I promise to show you my love every day by giving you everything that you need.

This is beautiful. I feel like I’ve spent so much time fighting my body and only in the past year or so have really started to appreciate and respect and be grateful for it and all the things it can do for me. More than anything I guess I’m grateful to my body for putting up with all the craziness I put it through – years of restrictive eating and not sleeping properly and pushing it too hard. I try to treat my body as well as possible now to make up for all of that!

I’m so so grateful to my body for not giving up on me this year even when I wasn’t too kind to it. My body and I share a never give up attitude!

Thanks! I’ve found the same thing as I get older. Maybe as we mature we begin to realize what’s really important? 🙂

You know how much I love this. I have learned over the years, and especially through running just how much this little body of mine goes through and how much it gives me. I put it through so much, and it is still hanging in there. Some days better than others, but it’s still there!

Great post Beth. So thoughtful and nice. I am thankful for how healthy my body is and how it is often much stronger than I give it credit for.
